The Stedelijk Museum celebrates the fourth collaboration with Sonic Acts with a weekend with soundworks by Dick  Raaijmakers, La Monte Young, Terry Riley and Maryanne Amacher. With Sonic Acts -a festival that organizes yearly workshops, lectures and performances on the cross-overs between visual art, music and science- the museum presents soundsworks from the collection in combination with the Amacher archive from New York, that became recentely available for research purposes.

Dick Raaijmakers (1930-2013) was a pioneer of electronic music. In the early 1970s he developed three seminal loudspeaker installations entitled Ideophone I, II and III. (In front of the auditorium until Sunday.)

Sound station with work from two artists 

La Monte Young is an American avant-garde artist whose music anticipated Fluxus and minimalism. His Drift Study (1968) explores the early Moog synthesizer. 

Terry Riley is een componist, piano/keyboard-performer en pionier binnen de minimal muziek aan de westkust van de Verenigde Staten. In zijn vroege muziek maakte hij vaak gebruik van herhalingen en vertragingen.

Fragments from the Maryanne Amarcher Archive, New York

Maryanne Amacher (1938–2009) was a ground breaking American composer known for her ‘inner ear music’. Her extensive archive is now being explored and opened.
