Exhibition — Jun 11 until Jul 16, 2011

The Stedelijk Museum has hosted Best Dutch Book Designs for nearly 80 years, with few interruptions, and Temporary Stedelijk 2 again presents this annual exhibition, featuring the best-designed books of 2010.

A jury of experts selected 33 titles from 376 submissions. Members of the jury were designers Jan de Boer and Vanessa van Dam; graphic design lecturer Ada Lopes Cardozo (Royal Academy of Art, The Hague); publisher Erna Staal (Uitgeverij Atlas, Amsterdam); and printer Fokko Tamminga (Drukkerij Ando, The Hague).

The well-designed book continues to be able to compete with recently introduced digital media. Although readers may no longer depend on paper to gain information, many are still drawn to the printed book, reflecting the prestige of books in general. The quality of both visual appearance and physical experience is an important aspect of the publications surveyed in Best Dutch Book Designs.

Visitors are invited to take home a copy of the exhibition poster, designed by Niels Schrader, who also designed the exhibition catalogue. Thanks to the exhibition design by EventArchitectuur, visitors can view books in the gallery, as well as peruse them directly.

The exhibition runs through until July 17.
