De Ateliers and the Stedelijk Museum proudly present Stedelijk @ De Ateliers: Talking Film with artist, filmmaker, and composer Dan Geesin (UK/NL).
During his time as a resident at De Ateliers (from which he graduated in 1996), Geesin explored the meaning of narrative structures in his short films, as well as in music and drawing. In 1998, he completed his first clearly narrative film, entitled Sheap Eat Grass. Since then, Geesin has produced more than 20 short films and shown his work in many museums and film festivals, including the Tate Modern, MoMA New York, Centraal Museum Utrecht, Cannes Film Festival, Berlinale Film Festival, Edinburgh, and the Rotterdam International Film Festival. In 2011, his work, Elephant Feet, won a Gouden Kalf in the Best Short Film category.
At this Talking Film event, many of Geesin’s film works will be shown, ranging from his early investigation of storytelling in Short Works (1993-1995, some of which he made at De Ateliers) to his longer films such as De Wolverlei (2003) and Elephant Feet. Geesin will be present at the screenings for a Q&A, moderated by Hendrik Folkerts, curator Public Program at the Stedelijk Museum.
