The Rietveld at the Stedelijk
In the course of 2009, a wide variety of people were invited to renew their acquaintance with the Stedelijk’s original Weissman building on the Museumplein. Among them were 22 students from the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, who were invited to produce video “portraits” of the building: during the final phase of the museum’s refurbishment, they were given three mornings in which to produce short videos expressing their views of the museum (which most of them were seeing for the first time). How they chose to approach the task and the rationale for that choice were left entirely to them.
This is the result: a wide range of personal impressions, varying in length from a few seconds to several minutes. Following its lengthy closure and in the lead-up to its re-opening, this is how the Stedelijk now wishes to present itself to the city and its wider public: through the eyes of up-and-coming young artists.
The short videos made by students from the Rietveld Academy at the Stedelijk will soon be on show here.
