This poster tells us in capital letters: Bunny Lake is missing. A small white cut-out figure against a black background serves to reinforce the message. Saul Bass created the title sequence and poster for the film of the same name, at the request of director Otto Preminger. Bass’s poster echoes the story of the film, using only a simple image and minimal means. The poster evokes a sinister atmosphere with its economical use of colour and with letters that grow fainter, reflecting the notion of disappearance. Text and image both tell the same story. The film’s themes of concealing and revealing are subtly incorporated into the poster.
