Theodoor Galestin, expert on Balinese and Hindu-Javanese culture and curator of ethnography, wrote an essay for the catalogue of the exhibition Indonesische veertien dagen (Indonesian Fortnight) in Kunstzaal Van Lier in 1948. The exhibition includes paintings by the Djayas as well as some other objects, such as calendars, scripts and fortune-telling books, that the artists brought with them from Indonesia. In his essay, Galestin positions the work of the Djayas as part of the debate about modern Indonesian culture. The English translation can be accessed below.
