PROGRAM

ABOUT THE SYMPOSIUM

What are the latest developments in art preparation? How do you build a sustainable storage facility? These and other questions will be addressed during the 2019 PACCIN Preparators Conference. For the first time, this biennial conference will be held in Europe: at the Stedelijk Museum, Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.

PACCIN (Preparation, Art handling, and Collections Care Information Network) is dedicated to building a network of individuals interested in sharing the practical information and essential resources that help hands-on collections care professionals to better protect and preserve the cultural property in their care. Click here to become a PACCIN member.

This two day conference is centered on the profession of collection care. Experts and researchers will present and discuss innovative approaches with regard to art handling and methods to further professionalize the field. Preceding the conference, on 11 April, there will be a day filled with excursions to several depots in the Netherlands. There will be time to exchange thoughts about urgent topics such as; working together in a changing field of professionals and sustainable practical solutions.

PROGRAM

The conference will begin with a keynote address from the Rijksmuseum on The Rough Journey of Vermeer’s Milk Maid during WWII. Presentations will cover the effects of vibration and strategies to prevent them by speakers including Dr.-Ing. Kerstin Kracht; Jasper Hunnekens; Marc Bongaarts from the Stedelijk and Michel Magendans of Sebert Technology; Mark Slattery and Lynne Harrison from the National Gallery London; and Rita Gomez from the J Paul Getty Museum.
