The Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam is proud to present Nora Turato’s new performance, pool7. The work was developed over the past year while her site-specific video and sound installation I HEAR YOU, I HEAR YOU was on view as part of the museum’s IN SITU series. Its titular phrase has become a tantalizing mantra—and a question: Do I hear YOU?

Turato seeks to take back language in an era dominated by AI-generated content.

This quest signals a shift in her practice. Previously, Turato drew from the flood of language found online and on social media, engaging with its seductive, detached surfaces. In pool7, she turns inward, working entirely with self-written material that is fragile, personal, angry, and deeply embodied.

Here, language emerges through the body—through convulsions, tremors, sighs, and other movements. Though the piece is scripted, its performance is not; Turato surrenders control and allows herself to be carried through deep emotional states. Stripped down and raw, pool7 resists reproduction: no recordings or documentation will be permitted.

On Sunday August 31, Nora Turato will go into conversation with curator Melanie Bühler about her practice in an Artist Talk.
