The Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and TrouwAmsterdam are proud to present the third and final exhibition of Stedelijk at Trouw: Contemporary Art Club, based on the theme of DATA. This timely theme refers to the “database”: archiving and cataloging data, and the storage and distribution of information. Different cultures have diverse systems for storing and transferring information. However, with the advent of the computer and above all, the Internet, the notion of the “database” has become inconceivably broad. What does data mean in our time of infinite flows of information? What is the consequence of the increasingly visual character of dataflows? Artists Elizabeth Price, Camille Henrot, and Hannah Perry, whose recent work can be seen in the exhibition, question and examine this phenomenon, each in her own unique way. In doing so, they refer back to well-known disciplines and traditions in fascinating respects, approaching them with an eye on the possibilities and problems of our hyper-technological society.

Opening

During the opening program on Thursday, November 28, the doors open at 8 p.m. The evening starts with a special PechaKucha program, organized on the occasion of the opening of Amsterdam Art Weekend. Various speakers from the world of art and culture will give their visions of what added value the Amsterdam Art Weekend provides for the city of Amsterdam.

Media artist Geert Mul is one of the veritable godfathers of the VJ, and following the PechaKucha presentations he will stage a unique performance based on database methodology which he developed himself. In his visual poetry, he looks for interesting interactions with databases and archives.

Grischa Lichtenberger of the Raster-Noton label will follow with an exciting audiovisual performance. Thoughts are the starting point of his work, for which moving images and music form the most important elements. These performances by such notable figures expand upon the aesthetics and underlying themes of the exhibited works and are not to be missed.

Stedelijk at Trouw: Contemporary Art Club

The Contemporary Art Club series is a program of exhibitions and performances in which contemporary art is exhibited in an innovative way. Following the successful series in 2012 in the context of Temporary Stedelijk 3 – Stedelijk @, three thematic multimedia exhibitions will be held at TrouwAmsterdam this year.

For the duration of each program, Contemporary Art Club can be viewed free of charge between 5:30 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. An entrance fee will be charged for the opening event.
