The spectacular facade of the new Stedelijk was unveiled last week! The futuristically shaped building, designed by BenthemCrouwel Architects, is clad in Twaron, a material sponsored by the Japanese company Teijin Aramid. Twaron is used in aircraft, ships and bulletproof vests, but this represents the first time it has been used in an architectural context. The facade is one hundred meters wide and very light; it is half the weight of a typical wall.
