Amsterdam, May 27, 2014 — The Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and cultural foundation De Verdieping, present the series Trouw Invites..., three exhibitions in the basement of TrouwAmsterdam, developed in collaboration with three international art institutes, Palais de Tokyo (Paris), Beirut (Cairo), and the New Museum (New York). During Trouw Invites, the building’s monumental space will become the stage for a hitherto unseen cooperative venture in an environment where art and club culture come into direct confrontation.

The famous nightclub TrouwAmsterdam and the cultural foundation De Verdieping will close their doors on January 1, 2015. In the past five years, an innovative and trailblazing international club, exhibition, and public program have been organized in the former printing works on the Wibautstraat in Amsterdam-Oost. And with the end in sight, themes such as “transience” and “impermanence” have started to play a major role. However, as the public has now come to expect of TrouwAmsterdam, this end will not take place in silence.

The series Trouw Invites… follows the successful program Stedelijk at Trouw, a series of exhibitions and performances organized in cooperation between the Stedelijk Museum and TrouwAmsterdam that explored the area where art, dance, and club culture come together. This time, three other institutes take their turns filling the basement of TrouwAmsterdam with art. Each of the three institutes are inviting an artist to depict the themes of “transience” and “impermanence.”

The artists will develop new work specifically created for this series of exhibitions, building up a total experience that brings to life the themes and specific context of the building in an entirely personal way. Trouw Invites… will take place from July 3 until December 7, 2014, and each exhibition can be viewed for one month.
