The Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam presents the first survey, worldwide, of American artist Seth Price (1973, Palestine). Seth Price holds a unique position in contemporary art. Rather than settle into one medium or style, he repeatedly challenges himself to push into new territory.
The innovations in his work are hugely influential on his own generation as well as on younger artists, partly because of his approach to digital manipulation and technological transformation.
PROGRAM
- Exhibition 'Seth Price - Social Synthetic'. The other exhibitions on the first floor can also be visited.
- Music by DJ duo DOPPELGANG
- Preview of ´Ei Arakawa | How to DISappear in America: The Musical´
EXHIBITION
Featuring more than 140 works created between 2000 and 2017, the exhibition includes sculpture, film and video, photography, fashion, web design, drawing, painting and music. Seth Price offers a candid view of today’s media-saturated western life, placing beauty and elegance, ugliness and banality side by side.
MORE ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE PREVIEW VERSION
During the opening the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam proudly presents a Preview Version of How To DISappear in America: The Musical, a performance based on the eponymous book by artist Seth Price, developed by artist Ei Arakawa with writer Dan Poston and composer and artist Stefan Tcherepnin.
Installed as a New York theater house or a casual lounge, with artists and museum guests getting together, the preview version offers a ‘video’ community outside the exhibition. The installation functions as an alternative location to drink, and to experience the information processing that are often intertwined with Seth Price.
The performance premiered in 2016 at Reena Spaulings Fine Art, New York, and was performed the same year at the Berlin Biennale. The musical will have its first full performance at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam on Friday, April 14 (sold out), and its second performance on Saturday, April 15 (last tickets available online).
Preview schedule: 9.05 pm, 9.45 pm, 10.10 pm
