On April 13, the Cultuurfonds Fashion Stipendium will be granted to its eighth recipient. Since 2011, recipients of this grant have represented a line of inspirational and outstanding contemporary Dutch fashion designers: Ilja Visser, Francisco van Benthum, Spijkers en Spijkers, Jan Taminiau, Youasme Measyou, and Iris van Herpen. At the Stedelijk, the most recent recipient, Ronald van der Kemp, will personally hand out the Stipendium to the next designer in this line. Fashion and art lovers can celebrate this joyous occasion with an evening in which the new Stipendium recipient will give a presentation that combines art and fashion.

After the official presentation ceremony, the public is welcome to join for a ‘blind date’ with the new Stipendium recipient. Join this festive experimental evening and don’t forget the dress code: feel free to show your love for art and fashion.

The Cultuurfonds Fashion Stipendium

The Cultuurfonds Fashion Stipendium is a unique platform and initiative that has been installed by the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds and an anonymous patron with a love for fashion design. The Stipendium consists of a financial award and a necklace designed by Atelier Ted Noten. The necklace is passed from recipient to recipient and the financial award of €50,000 enables the designer to take his or her creative and business career to the next level. A recipient of the Cultuurfonds Fashion Stipendium is selected on the basis of carefully designed criteria. The Stipendium is intended for designers based in the Netherlands who have created at least fifteen collections. He or she has great artistic qualities and craftsmanship, is also a leading figure for Dutch fashion and the Dutch culture, and therefore shines as an inspirational example of the contemporary Dutch fashion industry as a whole.

After the first edition of the Cultuurfonds Fashion Stipendium in 2011, the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds invited the Dutch Fashion Foundation to contribute to the development of the Stipendium. With its unique experience in supporting top Dutch fashion talent, the Dutch Fashion Foundation contributes on several levels to the Cultuurfonds Fashion Stipendium, from the selection procedure to brand strategy guidance of the recipient, to steer and protect the integrity of Dutch contemporary fashion design.

This evening is part of the Stedelijk Museum Friday Night Program. On Friday Night the museum presents a dynamic program of openings, performances, and media presentations, offering a diversity of lectures, interviews, and discussions. Young talent is offered a platform to present interdisciplinary productions. Special institutions and individuals are invited at the museum to highlight their vision and stories, and to invite their network for an experience-filled evening.
