Ana Lupas - On this Side of the River Elbe is the first comprehensive survey of Ana Lupas' oeuvre in the Netherlands. Lupas has been among Eastern Europe's leading female artists since the 1960s.

Time
May 8, 6.15 pm until 9 pm

The Stedelijk shows a number of milestones in Ana Lupas' oeuvre from the 1960s to the present. The starting point of the exhibition is Coats to Borrow (1989), acquired by the Stedelijk in 2022. The installation consists of a number of handmade coats, hanging and lying on orange-painted metal furniture pieces, such as a wardrobe rack, bed and mirror.

Other highlights of the exhibition include Humid Installation (1970) and The Solemn Process (1964-1976, 1980-1985 and 1985-2008), both developed in collaboration with local communities in rural Transylvania. In these works, Lupas incorporates art with local traditions, rituals and folk tales to preserve and keep alive the timeless meaning of those acts.
