From his pioneering role in New York's experimental film scene to his music videos and Hollywood feature films, the work of filmmaker Jeff Preiss is marked by an emphasis on the physical qualities of film and masterful narrative editing. His films are imbued by a profound sense of familiarity, particularly with people, landscapes and even family routines and city streets, and delicately interweave the genres of home movie, travelogue and personal archive.

For the latest edition of Stedelijk’s screening program Video Club, Preiss will present excerpts from STOP (1995-2012) and the new work 14 STANDARD 8mm REELS 1981–1988 (2018) alongside selections from the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam’s single-channel video collection. The incidental quality found in Preiss’s films is a shared theme with the selected works. The program reflects how artists capture spontaneous and candid personal moments and re-interpret their own archives for artistic and public use.
