Have you always wanted to be alone in Henri Matisse's garden at the Stedelijk Museum? The colorful La perruche et la sirène is going to take a nap in the depot for some time. On February 10 and 11, you and a loved one can say a last goodbye to a favorite of the public, before opening hours between the lush leaves, cheerful parakeet and mysterious mermaid.

La perruche et la sirène (1952-53) is one of the most important examples of Henri Matisse's 'papiers découpés' (paper cuttings). The work consists of leaves, pomegranates and two shapes that appear only once: a parakeet on the left and a mermaid on the right, from which the title of the work is derived. The Stedelijk offers the unique opportunity to enjoy the work in an empty museum before opening time, accompanied by a short introduction by curator Leontine Coelewij or a tour guide. Followed by an extensive breakfast in the cafe of the Stedelijk.

Are you getting excited already? Participate in the giveaway by writing a short story about the parakeet and the mermaid: la perruche et la sirène. What are they doing in the garden? What do they say to each other? What adventures do they have together? The four most original stories win a private moment with Matisse. Submit your story using this form
