More information about the speaker

Artist PJ Roggeband works at the intersection of drawing and language. In addition to exhibitions and performances, he initiates a variety of projects that situate art in the public realm. A key example of that is his recent soccer and art project Terreinwinst (translation: Terrain Gain) in collaboration with the Amsterdam-based soccer club ASV Arsenal. Since 2002, PJ Roggeband is interested in the number 11 and 11-letter words in particular. The results of this remarkable endeavor have been published in the literary magazine Tirade and performed at such festivals as Wintertuin and Poetry International. According to some, the website of his Elfletterig Genootschap (www.elfletterig.nl) (translation: Eleven Letters Society) has expanded to one of the broadest weblogs in the world. PJ Roggeband is a great admirer of the Russian avant-gardists, especially the work of Velimir Chlebnikov and Kazimir Malevich.
