Exhibitions — 22, 23, 24, 25 Mar 2023

Rietveld Uncut consists of projects developed by students in response to Studium Generale's theme: Refuge - fleeing, flowing, leaking. These student projects and the outcomes of workshops by Rainbow Soulclub, Elisa van Joolen in collaboration with the feminist organisation Tesselschade- Arbeid - Adelt, and Yara Saïd, among others, bring together thinking and making that explore this theme. Rietveld Uncut will be activated on Friday Night 24 March with a special program of performances and interventions.

The annual collaboration between the Stedelijk Museum and the Gerrit Rietveld Academie consists of two parts: a conference and an exhibition with performance program. Studium Generale presents a four-day conference where different curators fill a day with diverse artistic perspectives on the theme Refuge - fleeing, flowing, leaking. Following this theme, students create new work for the exhibition Rietveld Uncut. This presentation culminates in a festive Friday Night on 24 March with performances and interventions.

26 projects by Rietveld students and collectives will be displayed at locations scattered throughout the museum. Their interpretations of the theme Refuge vary from a drag house, practices of witchcraft, or the comfort that food can provide. Rietveld Uncut invites visitors to experience the students' thinking and making process and, through video works, sculpture, installation, photography and performances, presents the results of these projects in the museum space. The Friday evening program features seven performances, one of which is a group project by the VAV - moving image department.

The exhibition includes work by students from the following departments: Photography, TXT (textiles), Fine Arts, VAV- moving image, Architectural Design, The Large Glass Department, Ceramics, Image & Language, Jewellery - Linking Bodies, designLab, and Graphic Design.

Workshops and group projects by Rainbow Soulclub, Elisa van Joolen, the Rietveld's Photography department and the VAV - moving image department.

Friday Night

On March 24, as part of the Uncut Friday Night, Rainbow Soulclub will take part in our monthly Meet the Masters program. Members of this collective will, after a short plenary program, facilitate ‘free advice’ conversations on tapestries they have designed in collaboration with the Rietveld students.
