On which days can I book a visit?
When can I book a class or group tour?
We are currently able to offer tours on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Starting in February 2022, you’ll also be able to book guided tours on Mondays.
Which times can I book?
At present, we offer set timed tickets on Tuesdays and Thursdays (and on Mondays, starting in Feb 2022). You can choose from the following time slots:
10.15 -11.45 am
12.00 - 1.30 pm
2.15 - 3.45 pm
4.00 - 5.30 pm
When you make a reservation, you will be shown the time slots that are available. If not enough slots are free, you can divide your group over different time slots.
You can arrive at the groepsentree group entrance at the Paulus Potterstraat about 10 minutes before the start of your visit and use the group cloakroom (if there is enough room).
How do I book a program or tour?
Where can I book?
You book the program you’ve chosen through our website. On top the page of the individual program there are several buttons for you to click through to the ticket system. Choose the button relevant to your school or student group and/or the Cultuurkaart. All our activities are grouped into two programs: In the museum, and Online. This applies to primary education, vocational, and higher education.
Can I book at times other than the specified time slots?
All school visits must be pre-booked for a specific time slot. The available time slots are shown in our ticket system. You cannot book tours for any other times.
How far in advance do I need to book a tour?
A tour can be booked until the first day of the month prior to the month of the visit. For example, if you’re planning a guided tour in April, you have until March 1 to make the reservation.
Can I change the duration of a tour?
You can book a shorter tour, but will be charged for the full 1.5 hours. If you want to book a shorter tour, complete the booking process first, then email us at email@example.com with your preferred start and end times.
Can I cancel or reschedule a booked tour?
You can cancel or reschedule a tour up to the first day of the month prior to the month of your visit. For example, if you have booked a tour for June 14, you have until May 1 to reschedule or cancel. You can only reschedule or cancel by e-mail.
Can you tailor the content of your tours?
No, unfortunately this is not possible.
I want to come with my class or group but not book a tour. Can I do that?
Yes. You can book an independent group visit. This option is open to VO and HBO/WO students. Independent group visits can be booked on Tuesdays and Thursdays and in the time slots when we don’t offer other group visits. These time slots will automatically appear as available in the booking system when we close reservations for education programmes. Reservations are always closed after the 1st of the month. From 1 October you can book an independent group visit on Tuesdays and Thursdays in November for the time slots that are still available. You can book independent group visits – with sufficient availability – up to 24 hours before your visit.
Can I book an independent group visit at the last minute?
You can book independent group visits – if sufficient slots are available – up to 24 hours before your visit.
Should I register an independent visit for a small group of students?
Yes. You need to make a booking for groups of 5 or more people. You can make the reservation here.
Can we come with the museumplein coach?
Junior schoolchildren can visit Amsterdam and the Stedelijk with the Museumplein coach. The coach provides free, safe and quick transport for children between the ages of 7 and 12 from junior schools within a 60 km radius of Greater Amsterdam.

What does it cost and how do I pay?
What do the education programs cost?
The rate for a group tour of 1.5 hours is € 82.50 (including entrance fee). For an independent tour, each person pays the entrance fee. Admission to the Stedelijk Museum is free for visitors below the age of 18. Students pay 10 euros. Admission is free for Teachers/Group leaders. We do not offer a group discount.
How can I pay?
We offer the following payment methods:
- Credit card
- Cultuurkaart (VO/MBO)
- Voucher (PO)
Unfortunately there is no option to pay by invoice.
What else can I expect from my visit?
How long before our time slot do we need to arrive?
You can arrive at the group entrance on Paulus Potterstraat about 10 minutes before the start of your visit. You can use the group cloakroom there (if there is enough room).
How many pupils or groups can i include in one visit?
You can book a guided tour for up to 4 groups per time slot of 1.5 hours. The maximum group size is 15 (11 pupils for groups 1 to 3). Each group should be accompanied by a maximum of 2 teachers / group leaders from the school.
How many groups leaders do you expect per group?

Is there a place where we can meet for an independent group visit?
You can meet up with your group at the following meeting points in the museum:
- Under the stairs in Stedelijk Base (ground floor / -1)
- At the artwork Woven Into The Fabric by Petra Blaisse and Desso, located in the entrance hall on the left, behind the stairs to the lower level galeries
- At the Tajiri artwork (the sculpture with the big ‘knot’ next to the museum shop)
- At the Barbara Kruger artwork (1st floor)
- At the Paulus Potter entrance
Is there a cloakroom for coats and bags?
you can use the special group cloakroom (if there is enough room)
Can you have lunch at the Stedelijk?
Eating and drinking is not allowed in the museum. It is possible to buy drinks and snacks at the Zadelhoff Café and TEN Good Food Café.
What should I do if we're delayed or late?
If you are going to be delayed, please get in touch with us immediately. This way we can inform all parties involved. The Stedelijk Museum can be reached during office hours on telephone number: 020-5732911
Unfortunately, if you are delayed, we are unable to extend the tour.
What are your current safety measures regarding the coronavirus?
Do I need a coronavirus entry pass or QR code?
No, school classes with pupils below the age of 18 years are exempt from the corona check. This also applies to their group leaders and teachers. Group leaders and teachers are not required to show a QR code.
Do we have to keep a 1.5 m distance from each other as a class?
Primary school groups do not need to observe the 1.5 metre distance from each other, nor from adults (tour guide). Secondary and higher education groups are not required to maintain a 1.5 meter distance from each other, but they must maintain a safe distance from adults (the tour guide). Face masks are mandatory for pupils and students over the age of 13.
Is a face mask mandatory?
Yes. Face masks are mandatory in the museum. Face coverings must be worn by pupils aged 13 and over.
